Dal-Tile R & D ENGINEER in Dallas, Texas

This position will assist in developing innovative products for flooring and other markets; design & build laboratory prototypes; conduct physical and analytical testing.


  • Use scientific & engineering principles to develop new materials and products to support R&D and manufacturing projects.

  • Conceive and develop new process technologies.

  • Design and fabricate lab scale prototypes.

  • Operate laboratory equipment that may include mixing, press-lamination, molding, and other techniques.

  • Perform physical and analytical testing of laboratory prototypes using standard test equipment.

  • Assist in developing new test methods where applicable.

  • Transfer new products & technologies from laboratory prototypes to production scale.

  • Execute experiments under supervision and document results.

  • Provide process and technical support for R&D projects implemented in manufacturing.

  • Work in a team environment within R&D department, and interface with engineering and manufacturing groups within the company.

  • Perform other related duties as required.

Education & Knowledge:

  • B.S. degree in Materials Science & Engineering/Mechanical Engineering or other related disciplines required.

  • Background in composite materials and/or related process technologies preferred.


  • 3 years of experience working in industrial R&D or academic laboratory setting desired.


  • Must be able to perform hands-on laboratory work.

  • Mechanical aptitude, sound analytical skills, attention to details, strong problem solving skills and a demonstrated high level of creativity.

  • Excellent communication skills, a strong sense of urgency and be able to work under supervision, and in a team environment.
