The Manager of International Transportation is responsible for managing the international transportation department and all related functions and personnel for the company, reporting directly to the Senior Director of International & Domestic Transportation. The international transportation team is responsible for managing vendors and carriers and domestic drayage operators. The Manager International Transportation will oversee coordination and transportation of all international freight initiated and handled by the transportation team based in Dallas, TX. This is inclusive of all International ocean freight and drayage from ports. This person will be expected to approach challenges with creative thought, a sense of urgency and be customer based in all solutions developed. Qualified candidates must be able to work in a fast paced environment with demanding clients who are deadline driven. They must be organized, thoughtful, positive and able to easily adapt to different situations that come up on a daily basis. Strong, positive leadership and team development skill is a must.
Oversee the transportation of freight via ocean and ensure complete customer satisfaction by facilitating timely and accurate communication.
Ensure that all issues related to service failures are followed up on and corrective action implemented.
Knowledgeable of ocean carriers in all global areas and able to lead and negotiate direct contracts with carriers in a strategic and professional manner.
Working knowledge of vendor contract negotiations
Manage day-to-day operations of the international operations department, interacting with other department managers, executive management team, the sales team, warehouse management and order processing.
Leading others: ensure that direct reports are clear on their roles, responsibilities and objectives. Provide regular and feedback on their performance; provide challenging developmental experiences and teachable opportunities.
Ensure that department performance meets and exceeds established standards.
Conduct annual performance reviews for all staff within department.
Hire, lead, coach, empower and direct reports to perform and achieve in line with Company values and strategy, and department goals adhering to Company SOP and policies.
Ensure that all personnel are providing a high level of customer service to both internal and external customers.
Recommend and implement strategies to continually improve department performance.
Other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s degree in related field.
7+ years’ experience/ knowledge of International Air and Ocean operations, rate negotiations, customs, regulations and carrier relations.
Proficiency in Microsoft office applications, and have aptitude to learn technical applications quickly.
Travel may be required.
Demonstrated ability to lead, influence and drive for results within operation.
Ability to work under pressure with high sense of urgency and manage multiple priorities with confidence.
Strong analytical capability and excellent written and oral communication skills.
Ability to formulate and implement action plans.
Ability to develop talent through goal setting, coaching and performance feedback.
