Dal-Tile is currently seeking an exceptional Environmental, Health & Sustainability Engineer to join our TEAM! As the Environmental, Health & Sustainability Engineer, we need someone who assists management and provides support of Environmental, Health and Sustainability activities and programs to ensure achievement and maintenance of regulatory compliance.

Primary Objective

Assists management and provides support of Environmental, Health and Sustainability activities and programs to ensure achievement and maintenance of regulatory compliance.

Major Function and Scope

  • Participate in development, coordination, and/or performance of comprehensive Environmental, Health and Sustainability assessments of facilities. Provides management assistance with correction/completion of assessment action items.

  • Reviews local, State and Federal Environmental and Industrial Hygiene regulations to determine applicability to Dal-Tile facilities.

  • Develops and implements policies and procedures to help Dal-Tile facilities comply with applicable local, state, and federal environmental and health regulations.

  • Assists and provides guidance to Dal-Tile facilities concerning management of the collection, classification, disposal, storage, transportation and shipping of hazardous, non-hazardous and universal waste.

  • Assists Dal-Tile facilities to comply with local, state, and federal waste regulations on all Hazardous waste and Universal waste generator categories.

  • Supports the development of applications to obtain various environmental permits

  • Assists with air emissions stack sampling conducted at Dal-Tile manufacturing facilities.

  • Supports and/or performs Industrial Hygiene Surveys in accordance with established NIOSH Methods with specific emphasis on dust, crystalline silica, metals, styrene and noise exposures. Trains personnel at Dal-Tile manufacturing facilities how to perform workplace monitoring.

  • Creates, updates and distributes Safety Data Sheets (SDSs) as required by regulations and/or requested by customers.

  • Supports and/or develops Dal-Tile Division Sustainability Reports for submission to Mohawk Corporate departments.

  • Provides guidance to Dal-Tile Management and operating facilities regarding EH/S compliance questions, activities and issues.

  • Develops required state and federal reports including but not necessarily limited to the following: SARA TRI, SARA TIER 2 reports, Waste Summaries, Air Emissions Inventories, Stormwater/Wastewater Discharge Monitoring Reports and TSCA Data Reporting.

  • As requested, provides OSHA regulatory and record keeping analysis and advises management of results. Provides guidance to management regarding OSHA regulations.

  • Performs other related duties as required and/or directed by the Director - EH/S and Dal-Tile Senior Management.

Experience and Knowledge Required

Requires a bachelor’s degree in engineering or scientific field. Equivalent training/education will be considered. Must have experience with understanding local, state, EPA, OSHA and DOT regulations and determining their applicability to Dal-Tile operating facilities.

Minimum of 3 years of experience in Environmental, Health and Sustainability compliance responsibilities, preferably in a manufacturing company or in a Corporate EH/S function.


Ability to prepare, interpret, and manipulate technical data for accurate results. Ability to effectively communicate ideas and knowledge to appropriate levels of the organization, both verbally and in writing. Strong analytical skills and the ability to apply results effectively. Exercises independent judgment and initiative. Ability to multi-task with minimal supervision. Proficiency in Word and Excel are mandatory. Proficiency in PowerPoint and Access is a strong plus.
